Hair Cut

Finally we moved our asses and got down to trimming Hubby's long and unruly hair today.

Nice right? So much better than the last trim by me. I'm such a genius! Then again, how can I not be one with Hubby giving lots of instructions on how to trim, which parts to thin, how short to trim, etc. I almost blew with his endless commands. Yet I thought we both did a good job at the end of the mind-boggling hour-long task.

Look at that sour face. LOL! He was relunctant to pose for a picture, as I wanna show the world what a professional hairdresser the wife is.

P.S. Unlike the last time, Hubby came out unharmed after today's hair-cut, but I accidentally snipped off a tiny flesh from my ring-finger. Ouch!

Chicken with Sesame Oil and Ginger

I haven't been cooking proper and nice dinner for Hubby for the past 3 weeks. Had been busy holidaying, shopping and bringing Mum and Geri around when they were here. Feeling a little guilty, I whipped up one of Hubby's favourite dish again. It's also what I had been craving for recently and it's one of the dishes that has plently of health benefits.

It doesn't look as appetising here, but it is really kick-ass awesome! Not that I am trying to brag about my own culinary skills, but it's indeed one of the few dishes that I am proud of, really. I added lots of black fungus, which is known to cleanse a woman's womb, as well as ginger and sesame oil, to expel wind from the tummy. It's actually a popular confinement dish, but you can find it at most "cai-fan" store in the Kopitiams too. Hubby and I slurped up the entire big bowl of chicken wingettes, and he ended his meal with a burp and a "good stuff!"

Recipe:
* all measurements were approximated as I didn't exactly measure the amount of sauces used. I just poured from the bottle and estimated by past experiences.

Marinate 2 packs (28 count) of wingettes in 2 tbs of grated ginger for 30mins.
Thinly slice about a thumbsized of ginger and fry with 1 tbs of sesame oil till almost golden.
Add wingettes and fry till surface turn white (add more sesame oil if needed).
Add a handful of black fungus and chinese mushrooms (after soaking both), and stir for a min till fragrant.
Pour in 1/2-1 cup water, a tbs of cooking/rice wine, a tbs of dark soy sauce, 1-2 tbs of light soy sauce, and a tbs of DOM (and more sesame oil if desired). Adjust amount of sauces and water to suit your own taste bud.
Bring to boil then simmer till flesh from wingettes almost fall off from bones (about 30 mins).
Viola! Enjoy the nice, fragrant sauce with steamed rice.

A New Join

On May 29th, the US-based Singapore F-15 fighter plane team welcomes a new member to its troop.

Chan Zeyi, the little prince of Mr. & Mrs. Chan! Oh, and look at that jet black crowning glory of his. Absolutely beautiful!

Happy Dumpling Festival

端午节 is the time for bak zhang! TWC got together to make our very own rice dumplings, since no where can we get fresh n nice ones in STL. Very satisfied with my own virgin home-made zhangs, though all I did was wash, chop and wrap. The main credits still go to Peisuan and Josephine, who fry the ingredients and did the pro wrapping of the zhangs.

My masterpieces. See my ugly zhangs, especially those circled in red? As long as the rice doesn't spill out I'm good.

More ugly zhangs by yours truly, which "exploded" after cooking.

After spending the entire noon wrapping my dumplings, I still couldn't figure out the correct method to do so. Alas, I reckoned the fastest and easiest way is to wrap it like a parcel lah (recall how nuo mi chicken is being wrapped). You could see that my parcel-method didn't work very well too...

Our rice dumplings!
FYI, these nice ones are not wrapped by me.

Never thought that bao bak zhang is soooooo tedious. It shall be my first and last attempt at making home-made zhangs. Though these gems are seriously delicious, I still miss my Kim Choo Nonya zhangs...

Shopping Madness over the Memorial Weekend

Memorial Day is a US federal holiday observed on the last Monday in each May. It commerates US men and women who died while in military service. It is also the time where stores across the entire country slash prices to attract customers over the long weekend. Mum, Geri and I went Woodbury- the biggest outlet in US, early Friday morning to beat the sales crowd and left New York happily on Sat morning with an extra luagge each in tow. Though Hubby did not join us in the NY shopping madness, he did his part in boasting the US economy by buying 10 polo tees over these 2 days in Marshalls and the Mills. With a couple more federal holidays in the remaining months, I bet Hubby will leave the States with enough polo tees to last him for at least the next 3 years. I should start stocking up more clothes for myself now...

Long Awaited Haircut

I can't bear the sight of Hubby's long unruly hair any longer! Given that Monday is Memorial Day, I'm going to ensure that I haf some time set aside during this long weekend to give him a much-needed haircut.

My standards are obviously no better than GreatClips', but I bet it shouldn't be too far off from them by judging from Say Kwee's recent trim. Wahaha... No wonder Hubby is insistent on saving the bucks and having me neaten up his crowning glory instead.

Let's see if my hairdressing skills have improved in a couple of day's time. ;P

Mid-year Resolution

I know this sounds hilarious. Since I made no resolution at the beginning of this year as I did not see a need to (or perhaps I don't usually believe in one), I may as well set one now. My mid-year reso is to get in shape (read flat tummy, sexy back, toned limbs), regain that glow (to clear that conjested complexion of mine!) and to acquire a better fashion sense. I abhor jeans, yet to think the bitter weather had me succumbed to them for half a year! It's now time to show some legs again, but I seriously need to look much better before doing so.

Perhaps I should start an exercise regime soon though I never like to move my limbs in rapid motions (except when out clubbing), since no-way am I going to cut down on my cakes, chocs n ice-creams intake. Sigh... Maybe I could arrange a gym schedule with Peisuan and Josephine starting from the coming week; motivation from peers should keep me disciplined. Life is bitter when the need to exercise arises.

Cravings

I'm longing for mee pok, orr luak, wanton mee, laksa, mala steamboat, Gayathri's fish curry, etc etc. Oh and rich chocolate cakes as well as cheese cakes. Sigh... I hope I have a bottomless-pit-sized stomach and that all local delicacies can be found here. Yum yum!

Our Car Bomb

Sent the car for its routine servicing yesterday, and was told that the lighted airbag warning light was not due to a faulty seat sensor as anticipated by the mechanic earlier. It was instead due to some 10 major complicated faults in the driver's seat airbag mechanisms. Apparently, the service report came back implying that these faults were the results of one's manipulation with our car. The mechanic asked me a series of questions, including if I had allowed anyone jump-started the car previously, and had I sent the car to any other workshops before the warning light came on. I said no to these questions, and he was puzzled how a car could have 10 faults in just one airbag. Before I left, he was still adamant that it was definitely the works of an evil one. To think that for the past six months, we had been assuming that it had to do with the seat heater, and that the airbag will still deploy in an event of a collision. Now something which we all had thought was trivial initially turns out to be a matter worth worrying about.

It sets me thinking if there is someone out there plotting to kill me? If so, what are the motives? Or maybe I was just thinking too much. It could indeed be the works of a killer, but one who was trying to rid the previous car owner, not me. Turns out I am the unfortunate one, driving this car bomb day in and day out.

Now with just seven more months to go before we sell off the car, we've to decide between spending hundreds to get it repaired, replace it with another car or to continue riding in the car bomb. Actually as the predominant driver, the last option is not even an alternative to me. When my life is at stake, I think Hubby should be on the same wavelength as me, regardless of the amount of money involved. However here to get so much money?! Sigh~

Zonked

The take-home final took me 13 hours to complete. Not exactly completed, 'cause there were a few questions that I was clueless about and I just had to bullshit in order to not leave them blank. Anyway after spending such long hours on a paper that only constitutes 30% of my overall grade, I just do not want to waste more time trying to correct my wrongs. I think my eyes are popping out real soon after staring at the screen for more than half the day. Sigh...

Alrightey! 4 more days to the last paper of the term!

To digress, could swine flu really be the works of the bioterrorists? I thought it was more hilarious than anything else. Click here to find out more.
